Courses

Science Communication

The Science Communication track starts with general modules on subjects such as Knowledge transfer, Science journalism, Social science research methodology and Designing education and communication products. These courses will be attended by students from both the Education track and the Science Communication track. The disciplines Science communication and (Science) Education are related in many ways. In the introductory courses the similarities and differences between both disciplines will be explored.

The program then focuses on science communication based on firm theoretical foundation. Areas such as communication policy and strategy, science marketing and mass communication are addressed in detail.  Of course, relevant practical skills are included as well: they are integrated parts of the courses. Another characteristic of the courses is the focus on integration of theory of practice: communication professionals will explain the problems they have to deal with in practice, and students are challenged to solve them from theoretical point of view.

In the Science Communication colloquium guest lecturers will give their view about all sorts of topics related to science communication (each term there will be two lectures). As a part of this colloquium you will get the opportunity to attend conferences or to take part in science communication events.

You can find a list of the courses provided within the SEC programme below. Only those courses are listed that specifically belong to the SEC programme.
